Vintage 1930s country farmhouse primitive handmade sewing chicken caddy. Wood base has six nails to hold spools of thread. The wooden chicken has hand painted head and feathers in black and red, a hand tacked 1930s aqua blue floral feedsack pincushion on each side, a plastic holder for needles, and a top post for thimble.
There is an R carved from the wooden base, probably there before the wood was repurposed into a sewing caddy. The 1930s saw The Great Depression where feed and flour sacks were used for items like this, wood from other items repurposed. A great lesson in conserving and using what they had.
